I had a super fun girls weekend in Nebraska to visit one of my best friends and see her new casa. Sally and I met in Topeka and road tripped it to Omaha early Friday morning. Daddy was home with the girls until they went to KC, so he sent me this pic of keeping them entertained while he packed :).
They got to stop by and see their cousins Paisley and Penelope!
We arrived at Abbey's around noon and with Sally and I both being 'with child', we were starving! So we ate lunch at this delicious little place close to Abbey's house and the most important thing was our dessert- check out these little cinnamon sugar donuts! They were warm, like fritters and your dipped them in that salted caramel sauce, I mean, so delicious! The city of Salina really doesn't have much in the way of good food, so when I travel, I'm really all about where we are going to eat! As you will notice in this post, it's a lot of food pics!
My wonderful friend picked a vegan restaurant for our dinner spot Friday night, it was for my birthday too, but it was an awesome surprise, I was so excited! It was delicious {to me, that is.. my friend Sal was not so hot on all of it, but I'm going to blame it on her pregnancy/upset tummy stuff ;)}!
We had a delicious tamale appetizer..
and some yummy 'mac & shows', it was their version of mac & cheese, made with cashews, pecan crusted tofu and kale, so good! The beet burger was also great!
We had a pumpkin cheesecake for dessert and it was also delicious.. so fun to eat places where you know your food is made from scratch with local or legit ingredients.
The restaurant is called Modern Love (click on the link if you want to check out the menu).. I love when places give you post cards with the check, I use them as book marks and it makes me smile when I remember my experience there. Thank you Abbey for taking us there!
One of the best things about being away from my littles, is getting pictures of them from whoever is spending time with them. I got this from my mom while we were at breakfast at a place called, "Dixie Quicks". It made me smile.
Jacob and I are addicted to watching Diners Drive-ins and Dives, so when I walked in and saw that the place had been on the show and Guy Fieri had been there, I was sold! Sent this pic to Jacob and was so excited to eat! I would love to travel around the US and eat at every place on his list!
We had such a wonderful waitress, which made our experience that much better.. you can't beat a great waitress with great service!
This is my awesome mixed berry french toast- I mean, check the thickness on that thing!
This was Abbey's, I think she got it because it was called "Sexual Chocolate" ;).. which means, bananas, chocolate, nuts and whip.
Ok, my omelet was great, I strayed away from my typical veggie omelet and got this apple and brie one {when in Rome moment}, it was so good! Such an odd combo to me, but good!
We hit up some stores after brunch once our wonderful friend Runge arrived.. I saw this little saying on a plate and just love it. Good motto!
Besties! After a delicious Mexican lunch.. I told you I was focused on food!
And toes! That was wonderful! It had been so long since I had had my toes done, especially with great friends.
And dinner at a delicious pizza place right by Abbeys.. our last supper.
My mom sent me this pic of the girls, sitting by the fire and reading books- love!
I had such a great time with my girlfriends and it's always nice to get away, but I was so happy to be back with my little goof balls! Of course we hit up Trader Joe's before we went home.. and yes, the girls are squeezed into the small/kid shopping cart!
Just cruising with their sunnies on for our drive home.
Lillian was so excited to be home, she didn't know what to play with, she just grabbed as much stuff as she could carry!
This picture is somewhat out of order but my mom sent it to me and I just love it, so I thought I would add it on here..
same with this one..
